Sixty-eight-year-old lesbian Rowena McCarthy recalls feeling ‘lost’ when she moved into her Anchor sheltered home in east London in 2006.

Having been harassed out of the house she owned in a Derbyshire village by local people who verbally abused her, vandalised her camper van and spread untrue gossip about her, she was determined to keep her sexuality under wraps at her new home in Hackney until she fully trusted people.
